President's Message - from the JAN 2010 Meeting
Hello Everyone,
Thanks muchly to those of you who could make it to our meeting in January. We
had a quorum..
We had reports from several of our existing Committees. Teri and Kristin
reported on the prizes, the Meet the Breed Booth and the Breed booth for the
Seattle Kennel Club show. Kristin will be posting shortly to let us all know
what she needs - volunteers to man the booths etc.
Kim Peltzer has volunteered to be our Sunshine Committee head. If you know of
someone who needs some sunshine added to their world, let Kim know.
We discussed WWASA having a Specialty show. In a nutshell, USASA has recommended
that we NOT hold a stand-alone specialty. It is suggested that we hold a
specialty in conjunction with an all-breed show. USASA's reasonings are that the
timelines and financial burdens on a new club can be overwhelming and, frankly,
USASA is not in favor of approving a club holding an independent specialty until
they have proven they know how to run a show.
SO.....we need to think of how we would like to proceed - try an independent
specialty, or try a specialty w/in an all-breed show. We will then need to
select the location/time and then get our committees together to proceed. We are
looking at probably a FULL YEAR of planning......WE NEED VOLUNTEERS....please
bring your ideas to the Seattle meeting in MARCH so we can start planning
seriously.
There was extensive discussion by a member concerned with our status with AKC,
and the club's decision to table that route in lieu of pursuing USASA approval.
We look forward to seeing you all at the MARCH 13, 2010 meeting in conjunction
with the Seattle Kennel Club show. Please let us know your thoughts on a time
and place for the meeting......at the show? At a restaurant? After judging?
Early evening?
Thank you all so much for your participation and support! As always, FEEL FREE
TO VOICE YOUR IDEAS...SUGGESTIONS.....
